Pensacola Lifestyle Photographer + Military Homecoming Photography
Hope you guys are prepared because these photos are going to give you all the feels. I had the honor of witnessing and capturing this heart felt military homecoming. I am so happy to be able to tell Jake + Annemarie's story, my hope is that they can look back at these photos and remember how excited and relieved they were to be back in each others arms after 7 long months apart. Also how adorable are their kids, Jade and Connor were so eager to have their dad home that they woke up at 5am the morning of his return.
Driving to the location at Hurlburt air field Annemarie texted me that the time the squadron was expected to arrive had changed, luckily I left a little early but they were definitely keeping everyone on their toes. I met her right outside the gate to get onto base and was introduced to the whole family, including grandma! Once we were at the squadron we waited and waited not really knowing the exact moment of arrival. Then all of sudden the buses started pulling up (way more than I expected) and the airmen started flooding the pavement looking for their loved ones. Jake's bus actually happened to be right in front of us and the look on everyone's face when they made eye contact was priceless, smiles from ear to ear and cheers of excitement. You could tell Jade and Connor missed their dad because I don't think they let go of him once they saw him. I did get a little teary eyed watching all the families and loved ones around me embrace each other, you could really feel the love and energy in the air.
This whole day hit really close to home because Dylan, my boyfriend, is in the Navy and I know that deployments are on the horizon for us. And I think that one thing that isn't talked about when it comes to reuniting after deployments is that a lot of independent growth happens when you spend months apart. Once you reintegrate back into each others lives you're learning how to harmonize with your partner all over again and that takes heaps of patience, compassion, and vulnerability.
Thank you to Annemarie and Jake for allowing me into a special life moment for your family. It's always particularly special and beautiful to be invited to capture life events like this so I am forever thankful for being trusting with these precious moments.
